Epistemic practices in cross-domain collaborations

Background and purpose:
Research groups of UASs increasingly cooperate in consortia with partners from different knowledge areas, which entail different knowledge perceptions, vocabulary and research practices. It is not obvious that partners get acquainted with the different frames, nor that they are able to considerately imbed the knowledge from their partners in order to achieve their joint knowledge goals and innovations ((Checkland & Poulter, 2006). Interdisciplinary competences are necessary for corss-domain practices (Brassler & Dettmers, 2017). From previous research it is known that at the stage of midterm project evaluations various misunderstandings are at issue, which results in different perceptions of setted goals, key variables and desired output of the joint project. The goal of my research is to contribute to insights in the knowledge practices research groups are involved in and how they can efficiently engage in each others “epistemic games” leading to “epistemic fluency” (Goodyear & Zenios 2010).
Relevance of research
Saxion’s strategic focus is on applied research that contributes to societal challenges by means of technological innovations (Living Technology). This implies that cross-domain collaborations become more important, in particular joint projects with researchers form the social, care and economical domains with those from the technological domain. The Saxion research groups work together and review each other research proposals. This supposes a shared view of each others knowledge perceptions, vocabulary and research practices. This research aims to support the knowledge practices of the research groups in their interdisciplinary collaborations at an epistemical level.
Main research question and purpose In what way can (Saxion) research groups efficiently use the knowledge of their consortium partners during interdisciplinairy projects?
Questions, dilemma’s or choices, difficulties you ran into, that you would like to discuss with fellow researchers.
Main focus is on interdisciplinary collaborations of the Saxion-research groups. What might cases from other UASs add up on the results of my research project?
