THURSDAY 4th May 2023
Everyone was a winner today at the 4th Springfield Lakes Thursday DF65 Regatta. Great weather, great company and plenty of no pressure racing. Not sure just how many races held, perhaps 10 as no points are scored.
Winds ranging from 0-3knots combined with some light hearted banter when penalties were called or mistakes made which is what Thursdays event is all about.
8 skippers rolled up by 10:00am for a 10:30am race start followed by continuous racing till 12:30. Close starts and close finishes sent all home happy, content and with most wanting to come back in 2 weeks time for the 5th event (now listed on the SLRCYC calendar).
See you on the water,
Gary
THURSDAY 6th April 2023
8 skippers turned out for the first official DF65 Thursday.
As predicted the winds were slight and varying which didn't distract from the day. Racing started at 10:00. 2 lap races and one after another for about 70 minutes with a short break in the middle. Not sure of the count but probably 8 or 10 races held, everyone participated.
We also practiced about 6 starts, up to the windward mark then back over the start line.
Thanks Ian R for being PRO for these events, keeping a keen eye on the starts for boats that were OCS.
There weren't many. And calling the numbers as they crossed the line, there were some close races.
No scoring but I did notice nearly everyone had at least a first or second place.
It has been decided by those that attended that this event will take place every 2 weeks making the next the 20th April, but don’t let this stop you from going down every Thursday for a casual sail.
