Round 7 Scratch
An almost perfect spring day at the lake today. 11 boats registered for Round 7, the final round of our DF 95 Scratch series for the year. The day was promising to be a great day with sunny weather and 10 to 15 kph winds from the East, with some stronger gusts.
One little hiccup as we went to start the first race with a boat deciding to sail off of its own accord, yes it was switched on but there was an issue with the transmitter. The boat was rescued, and with the transmitter issue fixed, the first race was underway. Boat 18 Ian Ashe showed everyone a clean set of heals until he rounded the last mark ready to head to the finish when disaster struck. His winch sheet jumped off the drum and that was his race done. Unfortunately for Ian the problem was terminal for the day, so he stepped up to do the RO job for the rest of the day.
Lots of close racing with a few different race winners. Also, at the back of the fleet it was good to see a few different skippers sharing the tail end Charlie role.
Congratulations to the placegetters on the day.
First Mike Jefferys
Second John Heard
Third Doug Wells
Thanks once again to Ian Ashe for stepping into the RO role.
Thanks also to Shelley for writing down all the boats as they crossed the line and to Ian Watson for calling all the boat numbers. Also, to Ian Lobley for adding up all the scores and posting on our web page every week.
Without this assistance it would certainly be a lot more difficult to run these events.

Round 6 Scratch
Magic conditions with Cool Spring weather providing the perfect day on the lake for Sailing…. Variable light Breeze Made for interesting and challenging Sailing with concentration and trimming key to the winners success
Of the 11 competitors 10 of these achieved top three places in various races ….a testament to how close the racing is Springfield Lakes radio Yacht club has grown it’s DF 95 and DF 65 with sailors now representing 40 members of the club …. This growth has been due to the regular scratch and handicap races Being a one design class, racing is close, competitive and friendly with lots of information shared and a real spirit of camaraderie The reason for its continuing success !
Congratulations to the podium winners but also to all competitors who make it fun and a worthwhile day …. Also to John Heard for the tea and coffee

Round 5 Scratch
Another great day on the water at Springfield Lakes. Mostly a good breeze with the usual puffs and lulls. Ten boats with twelve races. Skippers taking turns at the Race officer with average points being awarded for the days racing. A big thanks again to Shelley and her team of helpers. Bad luck for Ian Ashe who lost use of his winch which put him out for all but four races.
Congratulations to the Podium. John Heard 1st, Ian Robertson 2nd and Murray Walker 3rd.

Round 4 Scratch
What a glorious day today at Springfield Lakes where we had 10 kmh south westerlies ….with a perfect blue sky …and not a cloud to be seen ….the temperature was relatively cool 18° but despite this the sun kept shining with everyone was jovial and warm hearted
Ian Gordon and John Heard recorded two firsts during the racing which was close and challenging from time to time with David Black Black showing the fleet how to wrap your keel around the Finishing Mark …. This provided the necessary time for everyone to have a nice hot cup of tea and chat about the measurements competitors were using
Thank you to Shelley who did a terrific job recording the results of the day …. And of course the 2 Ians who cooked a great barbecue for all members to enjoy…as Usual John did a great job as PRO.
Podium winners 🥂 were Mike, John and Murray … but the real Interesting statistic was only six points separated 3rd and 9th place…. A real testimony which Demonstrates the close racing….
Well done to all on a fun 🤩 day, Cheers Mike

Round 3 Scratch
10 boats at the start of the day and signs of some good winds, although we know how fickle it can be.
The course was set for basic S Easterlies rounding #3 for a few races, then John altered the course to #2 as the wind was a bit more to the East, and there for the remainder of the day.
Very gusty at times, enough to upset some boats, but strong enough to get in 12 races.
A couple of ‘oops, I forgot to turn the boat on’ today, so the records are growing.
Thanks again to John as RO and Shelley Heard and Ian Watson for some tight finish scoring.
Anyway not a bad day was had by all.
Final scores of top three:
21 Ian Robertson: 28 John Heard: 34 Ian Gordon (Doug Wells also on 34)
