November 6th DF65 Handicap - Round 4
18, and then at the end, 19 boats and 8 races for the 4th and last round of the DF65 Handicap Series. Close racing with some close finishes and close shaves at some of the marks. We might have found the winner of the "Did not turn my boat on" Perpetual trophy, but more of that at the Presentation day coming up in December.
Congratulations to Murray Walker who won on a countback from Mark Jents with Ian Robertson taking 3rd place.
Thanks to Shelly Heard for scoring across the line and John for doing the PRO job (once again).

Very competive racing with all boats starting off on their last handicaps from the previous round.

April 24th DF65 Scratch - Round 2
Dragon Force 65 Springfield Lakes Scratch club championship (Round 2) was held today in magnificent weather.... 26° and sunny with a gentle northerly breeze blowing from 5 to 10 km an hour
We had a huge fleet with 18 boats turning up, with three clubs represented on the day namely Springfield Lakes, Paradise radio yacht club and Raby Bay radio radio yacht club.
Raby Bay was represented by Dean and Don Horton.... Dean is currently ranked highly Australia wide given his recent win in the first ranking event for the year in the DF 65’s at Emerald Lakes
Also making the trip was Paradise radio yacht club Daniel Bergan who is currently one of the top skippers in south-east Queensland
So with the competition really really red hot Springfield members got down to working hard and trying to pick those local Puffs and use some local knowledge to their benefit
We had five different winners on the day out of eight races so it was highly competitive with lots of tuning happening between races were millimetre adjustments were made mainly to give some psychological advantage
It was great fun to see how close it was with one mark rounding having 10 boats tussling and turning to come cleanly around the mark
Lots of fun with skippers really enjoying the camaraderie , doing their penalties when required and helping each other to create a perfect day of sailing
Congratulations to the podium winners well deserved, but more importantly congratulations to all members for turning up to make this a great day. Thanks to Ian Watson for doing the difficult job of scoring across the line (and taking the pics) and Ian Robertson for doing the Race Officers job.
Remember the next Interclub series is on 26th of June at Raby Bay radio yacht club
March 27th DF65 Handicapt - Round 1
16 boats on the Lake today for the 1st round of the DF65 handicap Championship. 9 races completed.
John set a very interesting 2 lap course which we stuck to all day.
Everyone appreciated the change from the usual course, it was challenging to sail a bit more diagonal across the lake.
Very keen racing as shown by the scores.Mike Jefferys won the day on 13 points. Mike only won 3 races today but won by a mile, the next place getter was Doug Wells on 35 points. which just shows you have to be consistent throughout the event to win.
3rd place was John Heard who had the job of being the PRO as well as sorting out the handicaps after each race.
Thanks John and thank you to Shelley for scoring and calling across the line again.
It was agreed that everyone was the winner today.
Mike had our resident videographer take some video of the 1st race, posted to the DF65 Owners Group Australia here https://www.facebook.com/713169326/videos/10157992224254327/
Handicaps at the finish were 27, 61 and 356 on 10 Secs - 687, 56, 565 and 13 on 20 secs - 161,12,673 and 05 on 30 Secs - 74, 147 and 274 on 40 Secs - 88 on 50 Secs and 52 on 80 secs.
February 20th DF65 Scratch - Round 1
Great days sailing today for the first Scratch event, 10 races and 13 boats. Wind was strong at times but would then drop off, typical for Springfield.
Made some interesting racing. Mike Jefferys showed us the way again with 7 wins, followed by Murray Walker and Ian Gordon.
Mike posted races 7 and 8 to the DF65 Owners Group Facebook page here. https://www.facebook.com/713169326/videos/10157918935044327
Don't forget Interclub DF65 series Round 1 on March the 6th. We need some volunteers for observers and to help calling across the line. Contact Ian L if you are not sailing and can do something.
