Bowling League

The Design

Revisions: The image has been cropped to give more focus to the shoes and the bowling balls. The black border was dropped, I darkened the pattern and made it smaller. I moved the Hosted By to be inline with the rest of the text. To draw your eyes up the Ladies aspect of the league, I emphasised the ladies aspect and shrunk down the bowling league.

Background: In a few of the family sitcoms from the 90's there was always a great bowling scene. It looked like a blast and I have wanted to join a league ever since I saw Jill Taylor beat Tim(Home Improvement).

Contrast: The green and red are opposites on the color wheel, which complement each other. I kept the information font black to keep the colors cohesive.

Alignment: Using the rule of thirds, I kept the images to one third and the text using 2 thirds in both a horizontal and verticle plane.

Proxmity: By keeping the text in a column, it helps draw your eyes down the information, it's easy to read.

Repitition: I matched the same color of green and red from the bowling ball in the picture.

Color Scheme: Watermelon! Nature has some great color combinations and this is one of them. The color scheme is fun and makes me think of long summer nights.

Font Choice: This font is a sans serif, keeping the look informal but fun. It's called Atrament from Adobe fonts. The titles are bolded where the information is light.

Photoshop: I did a few quick edits in camera raw, making the shadows higher and slightly adjusting the vibrance and saturation of the image. In Photoship, I cropped the image taking out some of the uncessary floor tiles.

I put all the images and text on black background layer to give it a nice border.

I created a checkerboard pattern. Using a 300px square background, I used 2 150px square boxes to create the pattern. I changed the opacity of the pattern so it would blend better with the green retangle that it was going on.

Once I had the image and pattern in the same file, I kept to the rule of thirds to determine how the layout would work. The white space in the flyer is to help draw your eye to the text. I matched the colors from the image to the document to keep the light and fun theme.

I didn't know what text a cleint would want, so to show how it would look, I kept to the filler font.
