08 Water CIRCLE

Water CIRCLE

On the 26th of August of 2018 we started the Youth Exchange in Cyprus. The main theme was the environment (“Save Our Environment, Save Ourselves”). There, five students from different countries (Beatriz, Maria, Justyna, Tomas and Myrto), with a lot of creative ideas to put into practice, started working on an ambitious project. We wanted to focus our attention on an urgent and global problem: water wasting. During our stay at a camp in the beautiful island of Cyprus, we came up with an idea – we wanted to create a mechanism that could make water reusable. The idea is that all water being spent in a house is going to be reused for plants, stray animals and the toilet. For this to happen, there is an important need to use organic products and filters to clear the water.

In order to simplify our idea, Myrto drew a sketch of this hypothetical mechanism that we then used to create a poster to be presented to our other colleagues. We also filled out some forms, explaining our idea and focusing on the main topics: the role of each one of us, the target market, the budget and anticipating possible complications/problems.

On the 2nd of September of 2018, much to our dismay, our stay in Cyprus was over. However, we still had a long way ahead of us, so we exchanged our Facebook Accounts in order to stay in contact during the rest of the year.

In November/2018 we created a Facebook Page called “Water Circle” where we have been publishing various scientific articles and news from all around the world about the importance of saving water. This was a way of engaging the largest number of people in our project.

During July and August/2019, we have more tasks that we need to finish: create a logo that symbolises our project, describe our project and ideas in a webpage and make two posters about the project with pictures/images/sketches of the mechanism that we idealized.

As Thomas Fuller once said, “We never know the worth of water till the well is dry.”. This is the motto of our project and we keep anxiously waiting for our next trip, this time to Greece, so that we can make more and more progress.

We can never forget that nature is one of the main contributors to us being alive. Isn’t it time to start repaying the favour?
