Saronikos Gulf: a place of natural wealth that combines sea and mountain beauties. I live in a blessed place surrounded by beautiful coasts, ancient monuments and the national park of Sounion. However in many cases human activities have destroyed the natural environment.

SEA IN DANGER

Characteristic is the case of the oil that flooded the coasts after the wreck of "Agia Zona II" ship. The leak polluted all Saronikos gulf seems to have "stuck" to the bottom. (I took the picture a few days after the wreck). Fortunately the Hellenic Center for Marine Research that lies in the affected area (only 5 km away from my home) contributed to the cleaning of the sea pollution

Coast and sea is largely polluted by all sort of garbage. Me and a number of habitants we are trying to gather as garbage as we can every time we go swimming.

FOREST IN DANGER

The National Forest Park of Sounion is often affected by fires. Almost every summer the forest, the habitants and the animals are threatened by wild fires. These fires in most cases are started by people!

Voutzas- An eastern suburb of Attiki, Greece

I consider myself one of the lucky people to be living in Greece, while more importantly in Athens. From my house I can see the mountain Penteli, which is beautiful and full of trees. Behind the mountain Penteli there are some beautiful suburbs like Voutzas, Rafina, Nea Makri, also wonderful and filled with trees.

Rafina before

Or at least were, because approximately 1 month ago, one of the deadliest fires, burnt a vast area of Penteli, Voutzas etc

This situation really saddens me and starting in September, me and some friends at school are planning on volunteering in order to reforest the areas affected by the fire.

Katerini Pieria, Greece: A small but wonderful town that combines both mountain and sea. In Pieria is located the biggest mountain of Greece, Olympus. Olympus was notable in Greek mythology as the home of the Greek gods, on Mytikas peak. Mount Olympus is also noted for its rich flora. It has been a National Park, the first in Greece, since 1938. It is also a World Biosphere Reserve.

So as it seems my town has many benefits but unfortunately the residents don’t treat this beautiful place like they should. Here are the proofs:
