1) What did you learn about yourself as a writer from putting together your portfolio? Why?
There were many things that I learned about myself as a writer from putting together my portfolio. First and foremost is that I am not immune to making silly typos when I do not have an adequate spellcheck software. Thankfully, I have asked people to double check my work, but I still will undoubtedly have some embarrassing mishaps present, especially within the headers.
Second, learned how to develop my humorous nature via text, something that I was initially out of my depth in. Now, granted, the people that have laughed at my jokes have been family members, so maybe it is not as funny as they make it out to be, but still, at least somebody aside from me found some of my jokes funny.
Third, I learned I am able to write about a lot of content on a variety of different subjects in a fairly short amount of time. As one can see from my degrees, I generally write about two things, games and dystopian media. Yet, with all the references I put into these headers, I can confidently say that I can let my mind wander and still put pen to paper, or in this case keys to virtual characters.
Last, but not least, I believe I have improved my design sense when it comes to putting text in a medium like a website. As a result, I think the website looks at least slightly okay and at the very least fairly uniform in how the functions work.
2) What else did you learn about yourself by putting together your portfolio (academically, professionally, and/or personally)?
One thing that I learned about myself was that for some reason all my memes are very dated. In fact, some of them were from media that was made when I was a small child and in some cases before my birth. Perhaps that means I am behind the times. Maybe I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it and what's it seems weird and scary to me.
Moving on from that crisis, I guess I also learned that I have a certain set of skills that makes it so I am professionally competent, or at least able to be trained to be competent. I can make games, writing, websites, artwork, and more, which indicates that I could potentially have employment or make my own employment at a later date.
Then, of course, there is my academic success, which, due to this quarters performance, almost certainly cements my summa cum laude. I really hope it does too, because if something somehow goes awry in this last week then I'll have to change a ton of stuff on my website to compensate for not actually acquiring the title.
I also learned that I am not content with what I currently have posted here and I probably never will be. For instance I want to add multiple sections to the portfolio, like a resume, all of my educational time periods, more blogs, a better about me section, etcetera. In other words, my work is never done.
