1) What is the theme (over-arching reflective story) of your portfolio? Why?
The theme/over-arching reflective story of my portfolio is that of a branching forest. The reason that it is a branching forest is that my studies while diverse in their scope are all oriented towards a common goal/purpose which can be symbolized via the branches/trees of a forest all working together within the same ecosystem.
Additionally, there is the pun of my blogs showing logs for their header pictures and me taking a substantial amount of nature pictures which lend themselves quite well to being background images. In short, it just works out…despite green being my least favorite color and me not liking trees.
2) What are the connections between the pieces you have picked for your portfolio? (These could be the same connections you discovered through the portfolio reflection blogpost, but they also may be different.)
The most obvious connection is that I made all of them, but that is pretty self evident. The second most notable connection is that each individual piece is a study of what I am intending to create in my future endeavors. In short, I wish to make things and all of these works illustrate my capacity to do so in—at the very least—a somewhat competent manner.
3) How are these connections represented?
The headers are the main means of representing the connections between the pieces. For instance, in the entrepreneurship minor all of the pieces' headers are winter themed and most possess squirrels to emphasize the squirrely nature of group work.
4) How do you see your portfolio potentially helping you professionally?
My portfolio is a pretty good summation of my skills/competence, which makes it a pretty good resume if I don't say so myself. If anyone wants to hire me—and if I want to be hired—I think sending them this website could contribute to my potential recruitment.
Of course, there is always the possibility that it repulses my potential employer, but if that is the case then I probably wasn't the best fit for the job in question anyway. Another risk is the potential theft/spying that third parties might decide to undertake; however, that is contingent on the people who would do so not having other avenues already to do so as well as them finding anything of value within my work. Also, even if the worst comes to pass, I can always start again—make another site.
5) How does your portfolio help you with your academic learning at DU?
It is well known that our minds are forgetting machines. This nature is so much so the case that most of our sensory input, memories, and endeavors into reality vanish within a miniscule amount of time in the grand scheme of things. As much as I do not like to admit it, I am not much of an exception to this constant.
On account of this limitation, having an external remnant of my academic pursuits is a way of counteracting the slow moving poison of forgetfulness. Who knows, if Google persists and decides to keep their free website service operational, maybe this website will even outlive me.
