This portfolio represents my learning process throughout the course and brings together the different projects I completed. Through this work, I learned that translation is not replacing words from one language with words from another. It is about understanding a message and finding the most accurate and natural way to communicate it to a different audience. Working with such a wide variety of texts showed me that every translation presents a different challenge. A technique that works well for a news article may not work in the same way for a book, legal document, or Bible verse. 

Este portafolio refleja mi proceso de aprendizaje a lo largo del curso y recoge los diferentes proyectos que he realizado. A través de este trabajo, he aprendido que traducir no consiste simplemente en sustituir palabras de un idioma por otras de otro. Se trata de comprender un mensaje y encontrar la forma más precisa y natural de transmitirlo a un público diferente. Trabajar con una variedad tan amplia de textos me ha demostrado que cada traducción plantea un reto distinto. Una técnica que funciona bien para un artículo de prensa puede que no funcione de la misma manera para un libro, un documento jurídico o un versículo de la Biblia. 

Completing these projects made me realize that translators have to make important decisions about every text. They must consider the meaning, tone, context, culture, purpose and intended audience of a text.

Sometimes a direct translation works, but at other times the translator must change the structure or expression so the message sounds natural in the target language. Identifying oblique translation techniques helped me understand why these changes are necessary and how they can improve a translation.

Al llevar a cabo estos proyectos, me di cuenta de que los traductores tienen que tomar decisiones importantes sobre cada texto. Deben tener en cuenta el significado, el tono, el contexto, la cultura, la finalidad y el público al que va dirigido un texto. 

A veces, una traducción literal funciona, pero en otras ocasiones el traductor debe modificar la estructura o la expresión para que el mensaje suene natural en la lengua de destino. Identificar las técnicas de traducción indirecta me ayudó a comprender por qué son necesarios estos cambios y cómo pueden mejorar una traducción.
