What's the sign-up process as a car owner?

Easiest way to do it is to download the Hiyacar app and just sign up your car via the prompts on the app. You can also use a computer but you need photos of the car, which is why a phone is easier.

We've found it easiest if you say a bit about when your car is available and any restrictions you have in the description. Some people may choose to lend their cars for short journeys daytime only - that's fine, just say that in the description. Prospective borrowers will anyway probably let you know what they want it for - and I always asked, if they didn't, as well as checking if they wanted the car seats removing.

My car is generally available for borrowing evenings after 6pm and at weekends, however I commute with it so I need it back before Sunday evening 10pm. I am fine lending it overnight at weekends.

I have three children, and I leave the kids car seats in unless you ask me to remove them. I am happy for kids and dogs to be in the car.

When does my car become available for other people to rent?

Easiest way is to download the Hiyacar app and sign up there - you need to take a photo so it's easier on a smartphone. It's also useful to have a computer as you need a code from the DVLA to allow Hiyacar to access your driving history, but it's perfectly possible to do just using a smartphone or just using a laptop - you don't need a smartphone, it's just easier.

Your car won't be released to be rented until you've either had an introductory call with Hiyacar Customer Service or messaged them and said you don't want one.

Hiyacar will see that you're adding your car to an existing loop area, and will automatically put it in the loop (or put it in the loop and make it public as well, if you prefer to do that).
