Want to set up your own loop?

It's really easy! We've had a lot of people interested in doing their own loops. Hiyacar can set them up either with a map which you draw a boundary on, or with a list of names, depending on who you want in your loop.

We did a webinar on it recently. The link to it is here: https://youtu.be/X1j5LF5zAsA

Also, you can email me, Emily, on shareourcars@gmail.com Or if you prefer to just contact Hiyacar directly, reach out to eleonore.kuentz@hiyacar.co.uk

There is also a downloadable resource here as well as a copy of the webinar presentation.

How did you do it?

  1. Posted a question on local facebook group asking what people thought about car-sharing (got a positive response!)

  2. Created a Google Form survey to register interest, and shared this on facebook and my street WhatsApp group

  3. Created the leaflet and added QR code linking to sign-up, & then leafletted my local 6 streets

  4. Did a stall at our local jumble fair & presented at my local residents association monthly meeting so people could talk to me in person if they wanted to / spoke to people about it

  5. Asked Hiyacar to set me up the loop. I sent them a map of where I wanted it to be (on google maps, just drew a line) and then they knew anyone within those 6 streets was part of my loop

Other loop-setting up tips

Do it your own way! You don’t have to do it our way. You might want to start by being a loop of 2 people, and then add more people later.

Hiyacar are up for trialling anything. It’s free to set up loops, takes hardly any time, and they will be super helpful in supporting you do it. We're all learning together.

Be the first person to borrow everyone in your loop’s car if at all possible. EVERYONE says it’s nerve wracking lending your car for the first time, so it’s easier if it’s an experienced person doing the borrowing

Ask car owners to be clear in their descriptions about when they can lend their car, and how long they are up for lending it for. E.g. ‘I commute so my car is only available at weekends. It is not available for overnight trips’. Our loop is only for short-term rental (not holidays).
