Orkney Television started broadcasts in 1966. The first ident was basic.
In 1970, color TV arrived in Orkney, with this ident. The "OT" symbol, or the "wheel", was the first of many attempts to find a symbol that would "stick".
In 1980, this ident was introduced. The "OT/Wheel" was replaced by a glowing oval.
In 1986, this CGI ident was introduced, reminiscent of TVS' idents from the same era. Despite how impressive it was for the time, it only lasted 2 years.
In 1988, new management decided to scrap the "glass" ident, widely ridiculed and called "The Donut".
Orkney Television used the Generic idents from 1989 to 1992. The "donut" was dubiously incorporated into the "V".
In 1992, this ident was introduced. It was part of a set of idents, with various scenes from around Orkney. Carlton brought Orkney in 1996.
In 1998, Orkney used the 1996 Carlton idents, but with "CARLTON" replaced with "ORKNEY". In 6th September 1999, Orkney was replaced with Carlton Orkney. In 2002, it became ITV1 Orkney, and in 2006, it became STV Orkney, but only STV onscreen.
