Children in Books & the Single-Parent Trope
Any book that includes children immediately starts one step ahead for me. I adore kids in stories — whether they’re the MCs’ children or just adorable (and sometimes chaotic) side characters. I especially love when they act as accidental cupids for the main couple; it’s always so satisfying to read. This is exactly why I have an undying love for Single Parent and, by extension, Nanny tropes.
DARK Romances vs. Dark ROMANCES
This topic is a bit complicated. Yes, I enjoy dark themes and can love certain “dark” elements in fiction — but I have firm boundaries. Some of the hard no’s for me are nonexistent consent, rape (there is no justification), MMCs who treat the FMC terribly yet still end up as the endgame, and toxic relationships portrayed as desirable. These are the kinds of stories that make me yell, “These characters should NOT end up together!” I can’t see a future for them, and I genuinely don’t want them to be together at all.
What I do love is Dark ROMANCE — all caps on the romance. The kind where the MMC treats the FMC like a queen, worships the ground she walks on, protects her, loves her, and would kill for her. He should be a Green Flag for her, and he can be a Black Flag to the rest of the world, for all I care. Those are the stories I enjoy — not the ones that romanticize unforgivable behavior or promote toxic, unhealthy relationships.
Overly Used Tropes & Problematic Authors
I understand why some readers complain about overused tropes, but I’ve always been a sucker for clichés — there’s a reason they became so popular in the first place. As long as they’re written well and they satisfy me, I have nothing against them. This also connects to the whole “Problematic Authors” discussion. I won’t repeat everything I’ve already said, but I genuinely understand both sides. Personally, I don’t care who an author supports or what their personal beliefs are; I’m here for the worlds they create on the page, nothing more.
Pregnancy, Amnesia & Love Triangles
These tropes get a massive amount of hate, but honestly? I love them — as long as they’re written well. I adore the idea of someone losing their memories and falling in love with the same person all over again. When it comes to the Pregnancy Trope, a cute little baby bringing together two people who can’t stand each other (and never would’ve gotten together otherwise) is incredibly satisfying to me. As for Love Triangles… I actually haven’t read many yet, but I’m absolutely open to recommendations.
Reading Is Subjective
Just because a book is hyped doesn’t mean everyone has to adore it. Reading is personal — shaped by our thoughts, experiences, moods, and values. I never judge anyone for liking or disliking a book, but I am curious about their reasons. I love hearing what worked (or didn’t) for someone else.
ROMANCE-Fantasy vs. FANTASY-Romance
I enjoy well-plotted stories with lots of action, but if there’s no romance woven into those intense moments, I get bored pretty quickly. So yes — I’m definitely a ROMANCE-Fantasy girl rather than a FANTASY-Romance one. I need that emotional tension right alongside the battles, magic, and chaos.
Third-Act Breakups
I’m usually not a fan of third-act breakups, mostly because the couple often splits for a ridiculously avoidable reason that could be fixed with basic communication. But if the breakup is written well? I will devour it. I can’t deny how satisfying it is to read the MMC (most of the time) groveling his way back.
