Lot 62 - 3.5⭐
Main Characters:
Maddox Kane
Devon Sawyer
He was beautiful. Nothing in my life had ever been as beautiful as Maddox. Not this bed, the trailer, or the lot we worked so hard to get. Not the shop, the trucks, our dirt bikes, or anything else we managed to own and be proud of. I could lose it all and barely blink, but if I lost Maddox, I’d blink right out of existence.
Lot 62 picks up one year after Garron Park. Devon and Maddox are in love and living together now, but things aren’t as simple as they used to be. In the first book, it was all fighting, racing, and hooking up—but now they actually have to deal with being in a real relationship. And surprise, surprise… it’s hard 😖😖 They’ve never done this before, so they struggle with prioritizing each other while dealing with jobs, insecurities, and Devon’s piece of shit father. Their relationship is constantly tested. It’s no longer just about wanting each other—it’s about choosing each other, even when it’s difficult.
This book actually started strong—more like a 4-star read—but slowly dropped to its current 3.5. One of my complaints in the first book was the characters’ immaturity, so it was nice to see them face real-life problems and start growing up. Their development wasn’t huge and it was slow, but it was there nonetheless 😀😀 Also, they actually talked through their issues instead of beating the shit out of each other, which was another complaint of mine. Because of these, I was enjoying this book more than the first one 👍👍
So what made the rating drop? The repetitiveness and the unnecessary length 🤦♀️🤦♀️ I understand Devon’s need to prove himself and become someone Maddox can rely on—his intentions were good. I really do get that. But his actions still pissed me off 😤😤 He had Madd and their brothers to lean on, yet he kept refusing their help and brushing off their concerns.
“Oh, thank fuck,” Jeff laughed when he saw us. “Maddox!” Heidi shouted. “Devon’s here!” She turned to me and smiled. “You’ve got that boy whipped, Dev. He’s been getting hit on, propositioned, and felt up, but he keeps pushing everyone away and looking for you,” she laughed. I swooned. Fucking hard.
Madd was an amazing boyfriend 😍😍 Sweet, kind, and attentive when needed, but also stubborn, angry, and grumpy depending on the situation—basically exactly what Devon needed. Maddox was one of the biggest influences on Devon’s growth, in my opinion. And what Maddox went through because of Jim Sawyer was horrible 😭😭 That man caused so much misery to so many people—he deserved exactly what he got 👏👏
Despite everything, I still really liked this book 😅😅 I love Madd and Devon as a couple, and I found myself smiling during their scenes—especially the one where Devon has to go pick up a high-as-a-kite Maddox. I’m obsessed with that scene 💘💘 They’ve had (and still have) a hard life, and I just hope their happy ending actually lasts.
Madd’s dad earned himself a redemption chance in this book. Devon’s mom was an absolute diva—I loved her 💅💅 And lastly, Nate and Xavi… I’m definitely curious about their story and will pick it up at some point. That being said, this book was too long. It easily could’ve been at least a hundred pages shorter ✂️✂️
Garron Park and Lot 62 are some of the most recommended and loved books in the MM genre. If these had been my first MM reads, I probably would’ve liked them more. But they weren’t. I really wanted to love these books as much as everyone else does, but they didn’t quite meet my sky-high expectations. If you go into them with lower expectations, you might enjoy them more than I did. See you later 👋👋
