Mad Man 4⭐
Main Characters:
Avi Mulvaney
Felix Navarro
“The only way you and I are leaving this world is together, in matching body bags. Take that how you will.”
As we all know from Headcase, due to another experiment of Thomas’s, Avi and Asa were separated from each other. Thomas sends Avi to where Aiden lives to assist him with a new case. Being away from his twin is incredibly difficult for Avi, so he decides to bring along the one person who can make his days better for him—his brother-in-law, Felix. During this trip, they’re forced to confront the feelings that have been simmering between them for a long time 🤭🤭
“Are you insane?” Felix shouted. “Clinically,” Avi confirmed.
Avi and Felix were the couple I’d been dying to read about ever since we got the first crumbs of them in Moonstruck. Two fashion nerds with unmatched sass? Absolutely yes 🤩🤩 Their banter was sharp, their tension delicious, and they bickered like an old married couple every chance they got. They were genuinely so much fun to read 🤣🤣
“Felix was his favorite part of the day. He felt like he was holding his breath until Felix sauntered in like he owned the place in whatever insane get-up he’d put together, dropping his stuff on his desk, ignoring the stares, regal as a fucking prince.”
Avi felt like the perfect partner for Felix 💯💯 He was sweet, funny, and endlessly patient. The way he tries to process human emotions is both adorable and hilarious—like a literal cyborg attempting to understand feelings, just as Felix says 🤖🤖 Like the rest of his brothers, Avi has that obsessive, possessive Mulvaney streak—but somehow they always manage to turn those red-flag traits into green ones. Being the object of a Mulvaney’s obsession? Sounds perfect to me ❤️❤️
“Felix knew Avi could be terrifying when he wanted to be, but he’d never imagined his weapon of choice would be sexual frustration.”
Felix was much more emotional than I expected, to be honest. However, I didn’t find his vulnerability annoying—his concerns were relatable and very human. Doubting your self-worth and feeling like you’re not enough are struggles many people face 👍👍 I appreciated how patient Avi was with him, and I’m glad Felix was able to find more peace by the end. That said, I understand why some readers feel this theme took up a significant portion of the book, leaving less room to simply see them happy and settled as a couple. It could have been resolved a bit faster 😉😉
“If you hurt him, he’ll probably kill you. He’s…fragile.” “Fragile?” Avi echoed. “Yes. Fragile like a hand grenade,” Noah said. “Fucking handle with care or he’ll blow up your whole goddamn life.”
Aside from that, I loved seeing how supportive Noah continues to be. He’s basically the relationship coach of the Mulvaneys, and I’m absolutely here for it 💕💕 Still, I do have a few complaints. The first is the same issue I had in Asa’s book—his absence here. I won’t repeat myself too much, but they’re twins. Their bond is one of the strongest and most compelling aspects of their characters, and they shouldn’t have almost no interaction in each other’s stories 🙅♀️🙅♀️ The second issue was the murder mystery plot. It wasn’t necessarily bad, but by the fifth book, the cases are starting to feel predictable, and I did find myself getting a little bored 🥱🥱
Overall, I liked it—but it could have been better. See you in Archer’s review 👋👋 I had so many quotes I wanted to include, but there just wasn’t enough space in the review. So here’s a little quote dump to make up for it:
“Noah: Yeah, I think he’s decided you’re his. Arsen: His what? Noah: His person. It’s a thing. A Mulvaney thing. And a Grey’s Anatomy thing. But for the purpose of this conversation, it's a Mulvaney thing. They’re big on claiming people. I think this is him, like, claiming you.”
“Avi gave a delighted laugh. “You can’t move. You’re my hostage. My snuggle hostage.” “How are you a cold-blooded killer?” Felix asked, exasperated. “My love of murder doesn’t have anything to do with my capacity for cuddles. They’re not mutually exclusive.”
“Can you fucking imagine the bloodbath that would ensue if the Mulvaneys played Monopoly?”
“We’re running out of brothers to marry off unless Dad wants to take one for the team.”
“Mulvaneys stick. We find our person and then we just make it work, no matter what.”
“Sometimes, Felix felt bad for Avi. He was kind of like a cyborg trying to figure out human emotions that nobody had programmed into him.”
“Killing people is one thing but stalking…yeah, no. That’s where he draws the line,” Adam said, voice dripping with sarcasm.”
