Set in the Irish mafia underworld of New York, the Byrne Brothers series follows each Byrne brother (and those closest to them) as they navigate dangerous alliances, arranged marriages, family loyalty, and finding love in the middle of organized crime. Although each book focuses on a different couple and can be read as a standalone, the stories are interconnected and are best enjoyed in publication order. If you're looking for a "mafia-lite" romance with plenty of steam, possessive heroes, and interconnected characters, this series will probably be right up your alley.
Unfortunately, Silent Vows wasn't the strongest introduction to the series for me. The premise had so much potential, but I felt like the execution wasted most of it. I struggled with both main characters, especially their decisions and the way their relationship developed. That said, since every book follows a different couple, I'm still curious to see if the later installments will work better for me. The series has received increasingly positive reviews with each new release, so I'm hoping the Byrne siblings can change my opinion as I continue reading.
