GODCHILD
Logline:
A child is born into a struggle where he is influenced to choose
between the two sides of his family - major criminal racketeers
or God-fearing, law abiding citizens.
Synopsis:
William Donald Williamson, Jr. is born as a gift to his
parents at sunrise on Christmas day, in gangland Chicago. His
parents - young, wild, bold scenesters at the pinnacle of the
city’s underworld fastlife. From the start, Young William is
both gifted and cursed - blessed, with an abundance of love and
adoration, but influenced by the wicked presence of corruption
and graft. At age 3 William loses both his parents to a tragedy
in the streets. And when he goes to stay with his mother’s
mother, a tug-o-war for the boy’s loyalty develops between the
two sides of his family. His mother’s side - his devoted and
faithful, bible-toting grandmother and his uncle who is a no-nonsense
Chicago Police Officer. His father’s side - leading
members in a notorious criminal organization. They all want the
best for him. But William gets an idea all his own of what he
wants.
At age 7 William begins to show signs of violent aggression.
At 11 he starts to ponder doing something with his life, i.e.,
getting rich like his gangster uncle. By the time William is
13, he is working at one of his uncle’s legitimate fronts, and
soaking up the essence of the gang life, courtesy of his wild
cousin. Throughout his teenage years, Young William goes on to
defy his grandmother’s wishes for him to lead a straight and
narrow life. He forms a fragile bond with a local street gang
from his neighborhood. And he stops at nothing to convince his
uncle that he belongs in the family business. William enters
the ranks of his crime family by demonstrating a ruthless
willingness to carry out any order given him that violates the
RICO Act, even executing someone who would be presumed dear to
him, at the age of 16.
Young William manages to balance his life of intrigue with
his schooling, and graduates high school with plans to study at
a state university. But a New Year’s celebration, and his past
coming back to haunt him, alter the course of William’s life
forever. At age 19 he faces a murder trial. But long money and
an influential network get him the sweetest deal for a hoodlum.
Now, along with all his other ambition, William emanates a
zeal that seems to suggest that one day soon he’ll return from
prison, and someday soon after that - he’ll be the guy of the
town. A special child. A bright student. A well-mannered young
lad. But a gangster.
