8A: Candidates participate in significant field experiences designed to apply concepts and knowledge as described in Standards 2-7.
During LIB792 I completed 60 hours of direct instruction and whole group teaching to a variety of students K-5, where I applied several Model School Library Standards for California Public Schools.
It was very beneficial to note and reflect on the teaching and collaboration that goes on in my school library. I have learned that I have been engaging in best practices over the last several years, which is very validating. I also learned that a TL must never stop learning, communicating, reaching out to the community, and collaborating with other teachers. That is where the magic happens.

8B: Field experiences are integral to the coursework and address the major duties and responsibilities authorized by the Teacher Librarian Services Credential, including collaboration with teachers using the Model School Library Standards for California Public Schools.
LIB795 Fieldwork in School Librarianship I designed a collaborative unit with a classroom teacher, which required reflection, designing, evaluating, and teaching to create a comprehensive learning experience for students.
The American Game Changers integrated unit was a highly engaging project that fostered critical thinking, research, and creativity among my 5th-grade students. By collaborating with the classroom teacher, we successfully combined technology, history, and writing to create an interactive learning experience. Students developed valuable skills in evaluating sources, creating digital timelines, and presenting their research through websites and videos. Through reflection and feedback, I’ve identified areas for growth, such as improving differentiation and technology support, which will guide future variations of this project, ensuring it continues to meet diverse learning needs.

8C: Fieldwork includes experiences in a variety of diverse and realistic settings in the day-to-day functions of school site teacher librarians. One type of field experience must occur in a school library under the supervision of a credentialed teacher librarian. The fieldwork includes experiences with diverse elementary and secondary students including English learners, students with disabilities, gifted and talented students, and students at risk. Field experiences may also include participation in school and district committees, district level activities, leadership teams, professional associations, professional learning, and other types of libraries.
LIB795 Fieldwork in School Librarianship included culminating activities that required me to synthesize the information I have acquired throughout the entire library program, such as the professional development lesson plan and accompanying assignments included below.
This assignment provided valuable insights into designing and facilitating a professional development session for educators. The experience of creating a lesson plan, evaluation forms, and corresponding materials allowed me to practice balancing hands-on activities with instructional content. Reviewing participant feedback helped me reflect on the successes of the session, particularly in terms of engagement and practical application, while identifying areas for improvement, such as differentiating content and extending time for in-depth tool exploration

8D: Field experiences include on-going guidance, assistance and timely feedback by identified mentors to guide improvements in practice.
During LIB792 I completed 45 hours of fieldwork in a university library and a middle school library under the mentorship of a certified teacher librarian and librarians with MLS degrees.
During my 45 hours of fieldwork at Point Loma Nazarene University, I had the opportunity to work closely with my mentor, receiving valuable guidance and feedback throughout the experience. This mentorship allowed me to refine my practices, particularly in managing resources and supporting students with research skills. Regular feedback helped me improve in areas such as lesson delivery and adapting resources for diverse learners. This experience outside of my own library enhanced my ability to collaborate and implement new strategies, significantly contributing to my growth as a librarian and educator.
