Come to class prepared. Students should come to class with everything they need for the day and ready to learn. Students are expected to walk into class, put their belongings where they go, sit at their desks, and be prepared to start the lesson. "being prepared acknowledges the importance of having the right materials, as well as the mental attitude, to be successful in school work" (Evertson and Emmer, 2017, pg. 55).
2. Raise your hand to speak. Students are expected to raise their hand and wait patiently to be called on. This limits interruptions and gives each students an oppurtunity to speak. This will be used to teach students the proper way and procedure for sharing a comment or asking a question (Evertson and Emmer, 2017, pg. 55).
3. Listen quietly when others are speaking. When one student is speaking other students are expected to be listening queityl and patiently. This rule will help prevent any interruptions and call-outs throughout the lesson or discussion (Evertson and Emmer, 2017, pg. 55).
4. Be respectful to everyone. This is a general rule but a very important one (Evertson and Emmer, 2017, pg. 54). I will give students examples and explanations of what the rule includes. I will clarify words like "polite", "kind", "inclusive," and "thoughtful," ensuring students understand what definition their actions are being addressed by. I will also clarify that "all" refers to everyone in the school, teachers, admin, students, and you.
5. Follow ALL school rules. This rule reminds students that rules apply at all times, inside and outside of the classroom (Evertson and Emmer, 2017, pg. 55). It gives students the opportunity to ask questions and discuss whether rules are to be applied during that time and place or not.
6. Treat others how you want to be treated. This will be the golden rule of the class. It is a great way to teach students empathy and teaches them to recognize that their actions affect someone.
