Procedure: At the front of the class I will have a bin that students will put their completed assignments in. If I am teaching upper elementary, I will have one bin for each class. Students will be expected to turn in assignments when they are completed to the turn in bin. All homework will be in students daily folders on the "return to school" side, and I will check each folder during the day to check for completion of homework.
If students run out of time or do not finish an assignment before beginning the next activity, they will place their unfinished assignment in the unfinished bin. This will allow me to see what they did complete, checking if it was a comprehension issue or if it didn't get finished because of another reason. Students will be given an opportunity to return to the assignment for completion if there is any free time throughout the day. There will only be one unfinished bin no matter what grade is taught.
Absent Students: There will be a drawer underneath my extra materials that absent students will be able to find the assignments and papers they missed while they were out. Materials and papers will be placed in a folder that the students can grab and take home to complete. Students will be given a few days to complete the absent work and turn it back into me. If the students cannot complete the work because they missed the lesson I will pull them aside during some downtime to catch them up and check for comprehension of the topic or have a teacher assistant work with them.
