Adopt A Village

“Every Socially invested group in the city can ‘Adopt A Village’ for bettering village education”

Bringing about positive change and progress in rural education begins with strengthening the village schooling system. While local governing bodies, with aid from central and state govt. depts. have been working towards bettering school infrastructure and systems, it would be very apt for CSR teams, social clubs, Corporate Employee groups, International Schools and Colleges, and even urban Coop. housing Society groups to step forward to support village schooling.

Learning Space Foundation (LSF) does the work of identifying such deficits in the villages of Thane and Palghar districts, troubleshooting with sustainable solutions, spotting and training available educated youth to become coordinators and implementers of change. LSF team members have brought about change in many villages where Mumbai-based groups of Rotary Clubs and other socially invested groups have come forward to invest their funds in furthering village education.

Championing a Novel Initiative

One such bright mission was taken up by the Rotary Club of Bombay Pier, a club based in South Mumbai, who has supported the transformation of a dilapidated structure of a school building to create a full-fledged SarvaPrathamik learning center at village Chimbipada, a remotely located village in rural Bhiwandi area, with an investment of Rs 6 lakhs.  The learning center will also effectively run as a multi-activity hub in the village offering regular early and primary education programs, support for scholarship exams, English speaking sessions over the weekend and other educational events during the year.

The transformation of the dilapidated structure was designed by a young team of architects led by Ayushi Motiwalla, partner at GrassrootEd, who worked with a deep interest and motivation to build a learning space that allowed plenty of light, air and open floor area for children to participate in physical activity.

The Rotary Club of Bombay Pier will be also supporting the operational expenses of this learning center at village Chimbipada and take up more infrastructural work to put in better facilities in the local Zilla Parishad school.
