360-degree Assessment

TECHNOPOIESIS enables assessment of COGNITIVE AND LIFE SKILLS.

This assessment is 360 degrees in nature, as it assesses both cognitive as well as life [human] skills. At SarvaPrathamik Kaushalyapurna Shikshan Project, we used a new pedagogy, Dr. Coomi Vevaina’s TECHNOPOIESIS which gave us scope to assess more than conventional cognitive assessment. The structure of the lesson plan is designed to assess the following skills through questions that are based on what the learner has already learnt in the preceding three month period.

For our purpose, we have selected the following:

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT

How well the child can use kinaesthetic ability and movement.

Here we assess both FINE MOTOR and GROSS MOTOR skills.

COGNITIVE SKILLS

How well the child understands the concepts, uses mathematical, logical and critical thinking abilities.

SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL & SPIRITUAL [SESL]

INTRAPERSONAL & EXISTENTIAL

How well the child can introspect and relate to a higher power.

INTERPERSONAL

How well the child can interact with others.

COMMUNICATION

How well the child can use language and communicate through verbal and non-verbal means.

After each skill assessment, the teacher should add her/his comments. These comments will be based upon what the learner can do, what s/he can improve upon and how. Grades, instead of marks, are used and therefore the criteria for assessment is different in each case.

It is vital that the teacher be trained on how to assess as the teacher must have a thorough understanding of what to observe and how to grade the learner.

Tabulation

Each learner’s grades are tabulated as in the sample tabulation sheet, from which we formulate the bar graphs.

From these grades, we can assess:

1. Individual learner-skills

2. Village wise skill assessment

3. Quarterly comparative assessment of the above

We have tested this assessment in the villages and found that it has built self-esteem in learners as well as been an indicator for teachers on how to bring about change in learners.
