Primary school English language development project
The Early Learning Development Project (ELDP) was founded by LSF in the year 2014 to observe and gradually improve the learning systems in rural preschools. The Mumbai based NGO ‘Muktangan’ was the pedagogy partner and it was funded by Edelweiss Capital Ltd. From 2016 onwards, this project not only developed a full-fledged model for early learning in rural areas but also expanded to several sub-district areas in the Thane and Palghar regions of Maharashtra, building capacities of the Anganwadi teacher (Sevika) to ensure a systemic change in the development of rural children aged 3 to 6.
The English Language Development for Vernacular Primary Schools (ELD-VPS) project was created by LSF in 2011 as a trial of a DVD that was mapped on the SSC syllabus (for English) for primary students from the first grade onwards. While the DVD had multiple functions, the core purpose was to "improve English (listening & speaking) abilities for both teachers & students of Marathi medium schools following the state board syllabus”. This led to LSF's collaboration with the Mumbai-based NGO ‘Muktangan’ in 2013-14 - to develop a capacity building intervention for 18 LSF field coordinators working with 128 ZP schools in Wada, Palghar & Bhiwandi, funded by Voltas Ltd from 2016-2020.
These projects led to deeper insights into the key drivers behind early and primary rural learning. LSF was able to thereafter pave the way towards developing a program which would involve training a team of rural educators & facilitators and work towards improving the quality of education in rural govt. preschools and primary schools. This project would become the precursor to SarvaPrathamik and came to be known as the Education at Your Doorstep project.
