What is a NIE?

Número de Identificación de Extranjero ( NIE)

It is a foreigner identification number required for many different reasons such as:

• opening a Spanish bank accounts

• utilities hook up

• registering a Spanish second-hand vehicle

• contracts for cell phones or home internet

This number is assigned to all requestors by Spanish National Police. Request and obtain this through NAVSTA Rota’s Security Office soon after arrival to Rota. Bring the following:

• NIE fee (approximately € 10)

• Passport

• Military/dependent I.D. card

• Spanish I.D. card (your TEI)

• The NIE card will normally be ready for pick-up within two weeks.
