Studies show that writing about thoughts and feelings can lead to measurable improvements in mental health. I personally can attest to the impact writing has had on my life through every stage in life. People who journal about emotions often report less stress and fewer depressive symptoms. There is power in our words.
During these sessions we will explore poetry, journal writing and reflective conversations as a pathway for healing and growth.
This group is not a replacement or substitute for therapy or treatment but provides a safe space for community.
All are welcome to attend for free and registration is required.

I lead a writer's group in Partnership with Perkin's Center for the Arts. We meet the 2nd Tuesday of each month! If you're working on your first piece, aiming to get published, or simply seeking accountability and support, this group welcomes you.
Together, we’ll:
Share and discuss our work to gain fresh perspectives.
Offer encouragement and constructive feedback.
Learn from one another’s experiences and insights.
Discuss pathways for publishing.
Writing can often feel like a solitary pursuit, but growth happens in community. Let’s write and thrive together!
Interested? Join us, or spread the word within your writing circles. Let’s make this community a vibrant space for creativity and connection.
Note: If sign ups for the group don't meet the quota, Perkins may cancel the group. I am hoping that doesn't happen. Sign up for each group session/date individually.

I was honored to be invited back to share poetically at the annual luncheon hosted by Malikah Daniels of EmpowerHER. It was a beautiful afternoon dedicated to honoring women for sacrifice and overcoming immense life circumstances. The luncheon took place on Sunday, September 21st, from 12–4pm, and it provided a meaningful space for women to network, fellowship, and engage in workshops and conversation. Proceeds from ticket sales helped fund scholarships for local students.

On August 19, 2024, Best of Me, Youth Enrichment Services had the pleasure of hosting the “Sip Tea and Be Empowered with Me” event, a heartwarming tea party designed specifically for young girls in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Accomack. The event was a delightful blend of unity and empowerment, providing a supportive environment where young girls could engage in meaningful conversations and practical learning experiences.
