According to National Geographics, “it radiates light and heat, or solar energy; which makes it possible for life to exist on Earth. Plants need it to grow. We know that animals, including humans, need plants for food and the oxygen they produce. Without it, Earth would freeze. Nothing is more important to us on Earth than this. Without it the Earth would be a lifeless ball of ice-coated rock.”
Have you guessed what I’ve been describing?
Yup, It’s the sun. Light both literally and figuratively is important to us on so many different levels, especially right now. After the first pandemic of our lifetime where we all were forced to stay indoors, most of us are shouting, “MEET ME OUTSIDE” to everyone in a good way.
“We outside,” as my beautiful people love to say!
The light, love and boost of energy that is generated as people radiate LOVE to one another has the power to heal the masses.
According to the World Health Organization, “since 2019, 1 in every 8 people, or 970 million people around the world are living with a mental [health challenge], with anxiety and depressive disorders the most common.”
This stark fact further proves that more than we need a little bit more, “We Outside Time,” we need more unconditional love that reaches far and wide. The kind of love that tears down walls, creates pathways for healing, sees the pain of others more poignant than their skin color, faults, religion, gender differences or sexual orientation. We need the kinds of acts of love or empathy that place love above our opinionated differences.
Everyone needs light to penetrate the crevices of their hearts during the most dark moments of their lives. In my opinion, we need authentic, empathetic human connection just as much as we need the oxygen from the plants that the sun helps produce. Without the warmth from the continuous light and love we humans are capable of bringing to one another, hearts can turn into lifeless balls of ice-coated rocks.
With suicide being the number one cause of death in America, I don’t see any reason why we all can’t commit to being more kind, loving and giving beyond the holiday season. The C.D.C. (Centers for Disease Control) reminds us that, “being connected to family and community support and having easy access to healthcare can decrease suicidal thoughts and behaviors.” We can position ourselves for real life connections that go beyond social media.
For as long as the sun continues to rise, we should seek to give our best effort to show up in this world with the intent to move past our personal traumas and be nothing less than kind. Please know that light can shine in the darkness and darkness has not yet figured out how to overpowered light and never will…
Will you let your light shine in this season of life? Who needs the light you bring to be able to see clearly when life feels dark?
Sherrie Wilkins believes that God is love and that, "His radiance is like sunlight (Habakkuk 23:4). Step into the light and stay there always.
