A series of newbie armor quests were added to EQ sometime in the early 2000's. These quests got new players a nice looking set of armor with nice stats, after doing several tasks. On Rolath, we enjoy the quests, but feel the armor that is given as the reward obsoletes much of the original world content, and since this server is about the original world, we wanted to keep that gear relevant. As such, these quests on Rolath are pretty much the same as far as how to do them, but we give the player a choice when complete. The character can choose to wear his newbie armor and forgo old world drops, or turn the newbie armor set in for permanent character enhancements that will stack with old world gear,
So, what to expect? As we said above, the quests are pretty much as they are on live. This link should give you a great guide to doing your newbie armor quests. On Rolath, the first difference you'll probably notice is that the quest is given as a task. That task will guide you along the way to permanent character enhancements. If you choose to keep the armor instead, simply don't do the last step of the task until you want to. Once you have completed your newbie armor task, you cannot do it again. It's time to go hunt some original world armor drops.
You'll also notice that the final task, usually resulting in a weapon, results in an augment instead. This is to keep old world weapons relevant, and yet give you an edge for completing the task. A significant edge as well.
