Rolath is an emulated Everquest server utilizing the server code from the eqemulator as a base.
Our mission is to create an eqemulator server with a feel more like what EQ felt like in the early days. Truth be told, others have already done this, and quite well. P1999 probably being the best example. But the quality of people on some of the other servers, and how people treat each other on those servers can be lacking. Rolath isn't about being able to take down the biggest mobs or get the best loot. Rolath is a place to play Everquest with a select few other people that just want to chat, have fun, and role play a tad.
As part of the "early" feel mission, we strive to keep most of the old world loot/gear relevant. Newbie amor exists, but as you'll see if you play, does not replace old world gear. We worked out a unique system in this regard. You'll just have to play and see how (or maybe the Wiki will talk more about it later).
The server is doing a zone to zone progression, as we (the devs) complete our work on the old zones to make them what we want them to be on Rolath. It's not progression in terms of what you have to kill or accomplish. It's progression in that zones are getting phased in slowly as they are completed. Zones are being chosen based on relevance to what we already have. We started with Odus only and have branched out from there.
We're not sticking to strictly the same roll out that EQ did. For example we have stonebrunt mountains open as it was a nice fit into Odus.
