Retired physical educator Roger Wolfson has surely kept himself busy during the current global health crisis by exercising regularly, staying fit, eating right, and writing and releasing a number of blogs that will help inform and educate readers on the finer points of health and fitness.
Today’s blog is one for all the parents out there.
Roger Wolfson knows all too well just how active children can be. And many of them are heavily into sports. From baseball to soccer to basketball and martial arts, children who are into sports spend a lot of their day in activities that are extremely demanding on the body. Because of this, parents have to know what to give their little sports superstars.
First off, Roger Wolfson says that water is a must. Because of all their activities and sports, children will inevitably sweat a lot and dehydrate themselves. A healthy amount of water will make sure that their bodies are well hydrated.
Next up, as far as the major food groups are concerned, parents need to provide the right portions of carbohydrates, protein, and healthy fats. Carbs supply the much-needed energy quickly. Half of their meals should be healthy carbs. Protein helps muscles develop, grow, and recover. Without protein, a child won’t be able to reach his or her peak physique. Healthy fats are needed for energy, since a child uses up all the energy from carbs.
Finally, Roger Wolfson reminds parents that vitamins and minerals are also needed by children, especially the extremely active ones. There are a number of vitamins out there for kids. Just ask your physician which is best for the active ones.
