Roger Wolfson has been a physical educator for decades. Now that he’s retired, he spends his time imparting his wisdom on occasion. He has also started a series of blogs wherein he explores the countless aspects of health and fitness.
For today, Roger Wolfson looks at the popular sport of CrossFit and hopes to inform people who are looking to get into it, if the sport is indeed for them.
First off, it’s important to understand what CrossFit is. CrossFit is a hybrid of HIIT (high intensity interval training), high cardio and weightlifting. The routines are designed to build strength and burn fat simultaneously, in an incredibly limited amount of time.
As opposed to regular bodybuilding and gym routines, CrossFit doesn’t follow a scheduled routine localized to certain muscle groups. Most of the time, CrossFit workouts are full-body workouts. It is also different from most aerobic routines as CrossFitters often use weights, or their own body weight to accomplish difficult sets of reps.
CrossFit is arguably the most intense workout sport open to the masses today. Every day in a CrossFit box (their gym), CrossFitters are presented new workouts which they have to accomplish.
It’s exciting, unconventional, unpredictable, and extremely demanding on the body. If you think that’s for you, then Roger Wolfson suggests that you go on YouTube and try out one of their WODs (Workout of the Day), preferably the body weight ones.
