In the beginning of the 1920s many in the United States feared recent immigrants and dissidents, particularly those who embraced communist, socialist, or anarchist ideology. The events that led to the first Red Scare include World War I, which led many to embrace strong nationalistic and anti-immigrant sympathies and the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia which led many to fear that immigrants, particularly from Russia, southern Europe, and eastern Europe. The United States government, enraged by the radical bombings, responded by raiding the headquarters of radical organizations and arresting thousands of suspected radicals.The Palmer Raids were a conducted by the U.S. Department of Justice in 1919 and 1920 in an attempt to arrest foreign anarchists, communists, and radical leftists, many of whom were subsequently deported. The raids, fueled by social unrest were led by Attorney General A. Mitchell Palmer and are viewed as the climax of the Red Scare in the 1920s.
Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a train ride that has stops in all the major lands of the park including: Political Party, Progressive Park, Credit Capital, and Culture Commonplace. The ride lasts about 15 minutes and carries passengers for 1.4 miles, or 2.25 km, while they relax and get a glimpse of the world in the 1920s. The average velocity of the ride is 5.6 mi/h, or 2.5 m/s, and the ride capacity is 40-50 passengers depending on the train. The train ride stops and starts fast, just like the Red Scare in the 1920s.
