In your Word file, press CTRL +A to select all content.
Press Ctrl+Shift+F9 or Cmd+6 to unlink all fields and remove hidden links.
Note: You cannot format the citations once the hidden codes are removed. Always take a copy of your manuscript before removing these hidden codes.

Answer: Mendeley Cite will work with Office 365 and Microsoft Word 2016 and above (please note Mendeley Cite is not supported below version 16.0.4390.1000) and also with the Microsoft Word app for iPad. If you are on an earlier version of Microsoft Word then you can still use the existing Mendeley plug in available with Mendeley Desktop.
