Artifact Description:
This artifact is a reading guide for the book The Invisible Boy.
Connection to Standard:
This artifact connects to indicator 6A: "The competent teacher understands appropriate and varied instructional approaches used before, during, and after reading, including those that develop word knowledge, vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, and strategy use in the content areas." The artifact connects to the indicator because I included appropriate instructional approaches in the reading guide to be used before, during, and after reading The Invisible Boy to develop students' comprehension.
What I Learned:
I learned how to incorporate features of a picture book into a reading guide that could be used to help students explore a picture book in a deep way.
Artifact Description:
This artifact is a reading lesson plan on the strategy of visualizing.
Connection to Standard:
This artifact connects to indicator 6N: "The competent teacher uses modeling, explanation, practice, and feedback to teach students to monitor and apply comprehension strategies independently, appropriate to the content learning." The artifact connects to the indicator because I used modeling and explanation for my first activity, guided practice for my second activity, independent practice for my third activity, and feedback throughout the whole lesson based on how students were doing. Ultimately, this allowed me to teach students how to monitor and apply the comprehension strategy of visualizing independently by the end of the lesson.
What I Learned:
By writing and implementing this lesson plan, I learned how to effectively teach a reading comprehension strategy to students.
