Artifact Description:
This artifact consists of a curriculum guide with embedded notes of how a specific student with a disability could participate in the lessons through adaptations that would meet the student's individual needs. The artifact also consists of a corresponding paper where I explained the embedded notes from the curriculum guide in more depth.
Connection to Standard:
This artifact connects to indicator 1G: "The competent teacher understands how to identify individual needs and how to locate and access technology, services, and resources to address those needs." The artifact connects to this indicator because through the creation of the artifact, I considered one student's individual needs and what technology and other resources could be utilized to address the student's needs during the lessons in the curriculum guide.
What I Learned:
Through the creation of this artifact, I learned how to adapt a curriculum guide to meet the needs of students with disabilities so that they can participate meaningfully in lessons with the rest of the class.
Artifact Description:
This artifact is a unit plan on opinion writing for first-grade English learners. The lessons included in the unit plan are designed to support English language development in five different areas: "reading understanding/literature, vocabulary development, oral communication, emergent literacy, and process writing."
Connection to Standard:
This artifact connects to indicator 1H: "The competent teacher analyzes and uses student information to design instruction that meets the diverse needs of students and leads to ongoing growth and achievement." The artifact connects to the indicator because I used information about students in a classroom that I had a placement in to write the lessons in this unit plan. The lessons address the specific needs of the students and are designed to allow students to grow and achieve in their English language proficiency.
What I Learned:
Through the creation of this artifact, I learned how to write a unit plan for English language learners. Specifically, I learned how to incorporate WIDA standards and focus on language domains in my lesson plans.
