During my student teaching in a second-grade classroom, each student wrote a nonfiction text about an animal. After the students completed their texts, they created "awesome author" crowns to wear and celebrate their accomplishment. As a part of the celebration, the students read a few of their classmates' texts and provided compliments to their classmates.
