Congratulations to GSLIS alumni who is South Jamaica ACLM Selina Sharmin on Thursday, May 15, was honored by The Office of Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. at the AAPI Heritage Month Celebration Event in recognition of her long-term contributions to the community. Selina organizes and coordinates numerous library programs for the Bangladeshi community. She is also a member of the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance (APALA) and the founder as well as President and CEO of Nolak Women For Bangladeshi Women, a non-profit seeking to empower underprivileged girls, women and families through educational workshops.
Ms. Sharmin received a scholarship from Queens Public Library and completed master’s in library science (MLS) postmasters’ degree from Queens College in 2009, New York and became a certified Public Librarian in America. Ms. Sharmin has been working at Queens Public Library for 25 years.
