James Lowry has been appointed to the editorial board of The American Archivist, the journal of the Society of American Archivists. The journal was founded in 1938 and seeks to reflect thinking about theoretical and practical developments in the archival profession, particularly in North America; about the relationships between archivists and the creators and users of archives; and about cultural, social, legal, and technological developments that affect the nature of recorded information and the need to create and maintain it.
This appointment builds on Professor Lowry’s extensive editorial work, as co-editor of the Routledge Studies in Archives book series, editor of two anthologies including the award winning Disputed Archival Heritage (2022), co-editor of one edited anthology and numerous special issues of journals, and editorial board member of Archivaria, 2023 – 2026; Journal of the South African Society of Archivists, 2019 – 2022 and 2022 – 2025; ESARBICA Journal: Journal of the Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Branch of the International Council on Archives, 2019 - 2021; Journal of the Society of Nigerian Archivists, 2017 - 2021; Archives and Manuscripts: The Journal of the Australian Society of Archivists, 2015 - present; Archives and Records: The Journal of the [UK] Archives and Records Association, 2013 - 2023.
