Open Broadcaster Software for Online Teaching
The GSLIS Research and Pedagogy Committee presents a pedagogy workshop on September 26th at 6:30pm via Zoom. Faculty member Dr. Shack Hackney will introduce Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) as a tool for online teaching. OBS is a piece of open-source software which allows users to share their screen, embed images and video, control audio across programs, and create stylish and practical scenes and transitions. Dr. Hackney will demonstrate the basics of installing and using the software, and show some examples of how they make use of the OBS suite of tools in the classroom.
OBS integrates with Zoom, and allows users to share windows and parts of their desktop without needing to use the Zoom screen share feature, giving users greater control over the content that they share. It also includes additional features such as closed captioning/automatic transcription, easy switching between windows and videos, and the creation of persistent "scenes" with dedicated formatting and settings. OBS is an incredibly powerful tool for use in the online classroom, please join us to learn more!

The demonstration and instruction portion of this workshop will be recorded and made available to GSLIS faculty after the session on the 26th. The live discussion/Q&A will not be recorded.
