Creative writing

With some super exciting prompts and great writing tips from mentors, kids will be able to expand on their writing abilities and improve all while having fun! This session promotes creativity and communication skills.

Coding

Scratch is a free programming language that is easy for kids to use! In this activity, students will be able to learn the process of coding in a simple and exciting way. Through Scratch, kids are able to begin to work on the skills needed to code more complex projects. This session promotes memory, processing skills, and problem-solving. This week, our mentors will be leading our students through creating characters and making a fortune teller game!!!

Materials: https://scratch.mit.edu/ account and a device (preferably 2 devices to make learning easier)

tuesday 7/7

snack time!

Your kids will enjoy learning to make simple snacks with no heat usage required! A fun intro to cooking, this activity is a great way to pick up on good snacking habits. Our amazing mentors will lead students through making Greek Yogurt Parfaits with Oats and Berries as well as Nutella Sandwiches. This session promotes responsibility and making healthy choices.

Materials: Greek Yogurt, Oats, Berries, Nutella, 2 slices of bread, a plate, a cup, a spoon, and a plastic knife

fizzy orange science experiment

This experiment is the perfect way to learn more about chemical reactions that occur even with everyday objects. Guided through the experiment step by step, your child will expand their scientific knowledge in a fun, household-friendly way. This session promotes critical thinking and scientific analysis.

Materials: One orange, a tablespoon of baking soda, and a bowl/plate

origami Cranes

Origami is a great way to create beautiful projects only using paper! In this session, students will work on using their imagination to create artwork. Origami encourages creativity, patience, and thinking skills. Our mentors will lead your child through how to make a beautiful paper crane!

Math game

Math is a fundamental part of daily life and is needed in almost all career paths. With this session, kids can review familiar mathematical concepts and expand their knowledge in a fun and exciting game! This session promotes memory and analytical thinking.

Art helps kids learn to pay attention to detail and solve problems to create a bigger picture and drawing is a great place to start! In this session, kids will have fun while learning the basics of drawing. This session promotes creativity.

Oil and Water Science experiment

This experiment is the perfect way to learn more about different substances and their interactions that occur even with everyday objects. Using oil, water, and food or water coloring, your child will learn about density and more in this fun session! Guided through the experiment step by step, your child will expand their scientific knowledge in a fun, household-friendly way. This session promotes critical thinking and scientific analysis.

Staying active is as important as ever during the current pandemic. Our mentors have created the best workout for children to challenge themselves athletically while still having fun!

Magic Tree House read-a-loud

Reading serves as a productive past time and expands vocabulary and knowledge! Led by the founders of Project Teens Teach, kids will be able to listen and discuss a book from the hit series The Magic Tree House. This activity is great for kids to relax and have fun as well as follow along to the adventures of two siblings, Jack and Annie, and their adventures through history!

Saturday 7/11

Making Cloud Dough

This cool craft is a must-try this summer! Making cloud dough in a bag is fun, easy, and quick! Making this creative, mold-able dough is an amazing way to express creativity in a fun, educational way! This might get a little bit messy so parents/guardians are welcome to assist younger children.

Materials: conditioner, cornstarch, bowl, and something to mix with (optional: food/water coloring)

covid-19 awareness with Care for clinics

We've teamed up with Care for Clinics to bring a kid-friendly session to ensure that your child understands the necessary actions to take to stay healthy during the pandemic. Care for Clinics is an organization dedicated to providing homemade masks to medical centers. Kids will have fun while learning healthy sanitation habits. This session promotes good health and current event awareness.
