Making an Online or Virtual Learning Environment Safe and Conducive
Activity 2
Making an Online or Virtual Learning Environment Safe and Conducive
In this activity 2, we attained the following learning outcomes: (1) identify practical and feasible classroom routines and procedures in a remote learning environment: (2) analyze and assess critical educational interventions in creating a safe and conducive online learning environment: (3) acquire a higher concept of learning strategies in developing our own procedures. The focus of the activity is on a virtual learning environment.
Here, we answered the following questions: (1) How do you manage virtual classrooms; (2) How do you make lessons available to everybody; and (3) How do you teach remote using video calls. We have attached a document that details how students communicate or interact during online class, based on the interview we conducted .
In this worksheet, we realized what type of school setting we prefer where and what we think is effective in the teaching-learning process. It enabled us to plan and create our preferred safe and conducive learning environment for our students. We intend to make the learning setting safe and conducive by enforcing and implementing many effective, innovative, and creative ways and strategies in the teaching-learning process. For example, exercises and activities will allow students to better express themselves in their takeaways or thoughts gained from a lecture. Another technique is to impose rules and regulations that must benefit everyone in the class and take into account their differences and diversity; to promote respect and harmony with the students' differences. We will also make sure to understand the situation, opinion, ideas, feelings, and mental and emotional needs of the students to ensure their safety so they can freely express their ideas. We must also pay more attention and identify clues if there is cyberbullying or bias between the students and take an action depending on the situation. We must also embrace and learn new tools and technology to use during the online class as it will make the students feel secure .

The Activity above was anchored on the second domain; Learning Environment . Upon answering the activity, we were able to achieve different learning competencies that we are expected to attain upon completing it.
The observation part wherein we are required to interview a teacher and ask several questions about their virtual learning environment or set-up helped us attain 6 learning competencies from the second domain. These are (1) demonstrate our knowledge of policies, guidelines and procedures that provide safe and secure learning environments, (2) demonstrate our understanding of learning environments that promote fairness, respect and care to encourage learning, (3) demonstrate our knowledge of managing classroom structure that engages learners, individually or in groups, in meaningful exploration, discovery and hands-on activities within the available physical learning environments, (4) demonstrate our understanding of supportive learning environments that nurture and inspire learner participation, (5) demonstrate our knowledge of learning environments that motivate learners to work productively by assuming responsibility for their own learning and (6) demonstrate our knowledge of positive and non-violent discipline in the management of learner behavior.
The analysis part helped us meet 5 learning competencies under domain 2 specifically (1) demonstrate our knowledge of policies, guidelines and procedures that provide safe and secure learning environments, (2) demonstrate our understanding of learning environments that promote fairness, respect and care to encourage learning, (3) demonstrate our knowledge of managing classroom structure that engages learners, individually or in groups, in meaningful exploration, discovery and hands-on activities within the available physical learning environments, (4) demonstrate our knowledge of learning environments that motivate learners to work productively by assuming responsibility for their own learning and (5) demonstrate our knowledge of positive and non-violent discipline in the management of learner behavior.
