My strong desire to understand the teaching and learning process began early in my life and has remained with me throughout my professional career. It prompted my first ‘real’ job as a support teacher for learning disabled high school students. It motivated me to pursue advanced studies in Special Education. And it has always been the primary focus of my career in education, even as I became a school administrator.
My career at a forward-thinking independent secondary school in New Hampshire, gave me the opportunity to play a leading role in a comprehensive, groundbreaking school reform effort . This provided me with a rare and insightful perspective on the field of education, the nature of teaching, and the culture of schools.
Because of this unique experience, I was able to develop an advanced set of skills around the following.
- Instructional practices – I have acquired expert knowledge of how to implement a range of research-supported practices for individual skill development, as well as effective classroom learning.
- Curriculum Design – I have guided the development of an intentional curriculum to create dynamic, learner-centered experiences that serve a diverse range of abilities.
- Designing and Delivering Training Experiences - I managed and delivered highly successful, learner-centered, and demonstration-based training programs that deliver on identified outcomes.
- Data-driven Growth - I am skilled in gathering and using data to inform organizational progress and individual growth
- Social Emotional Development - I have facility with strategies that promote the development of emotionally literate students
- Team building – I have led teams and established a collaborative process that was inclusive and action-oriented.
- Technology – My experience guiding one of the longest continually operating 1:1 laptop programs means I have robust technology skills and I understand what it takes for technology to enhance student learning. This includes the use of database and LMS platforms that serve the teaching and learning process.
Having been fortunate enough to have had these exceptional opportunities, I now seek to share my experience in a broader context in the hopes of having a significant impact on student growth and development.
