This three day workshop was held by Sacha Marie Levay, who currently works as a conservator at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. She taught an introductory lecture about the history of gilding and the development of various techniques. In the following days we prepared our own gesso, bole, and used silver leaf as gold leaf was unavailable to us. We learned about techniques employed in oil and water gilding. This was a valuable learning experience and one of the Art History professors who specializes in renaissance era at Queen's University was able to join the workshop.
