I had the opportunity to work at two institutions during the summer of 2018 in cooperation with the Balkan Heritage Field School. For three weeks, I attended the workshop for the conservation of paper, textiles and metals on the island of Zakynthos, Greece at the Technological Educational Institute of the Ionian Islands. This program was taught by three instructors who are professional in their field of work. These materials were chosen because many ecclesiastical textiles have three main components - paper support, metal embroidery, and fabric. The second half of my internship with BHFS occurred at the archaeological site of Stobi in the Republic of Macedonia. I had been here for pre-program conservation experience, attending the workshop for the conservation and documentation of Late Roman Mosaics and Frescos. I returned in the summer of 2018 to work on wall mosaic fragments. For more information on these exciting projects, please follow the link below.
