The Canadian Association for Conservation held it's 45th annual conference in Kingston, ON. This conference had the theme of Hands On Conservation with various presenters gathering together to discuss current research, projects, both successes and failures. I had the pleasure to present my research project in one of the "lightning rounds" giving conservators a 3 minute snapshot of what my research entailed and what further research will include.
I also assisted Helena Neveau in the drum making workshop which was held prior to the conference and attended by some of the top professionals of conservation in Canada. I had the daunting task of leading a workshop in cultural safety as a part of the drum making workshop. This involved a 2 hour demonstration which topics included relationship building with indigenous communities/individual and terminology. This was a great opportunity for conservators to learn about an existing culture alongside the very materials they conserve. The header image of this webpage is of the various unique drumsticks created by each of the workshop participant.
