Hide a Gradebook Item

If you do not want to assign a quiz or assignment within the content, you will need to ‘hide’ the item in the gradebook. Not hiding the gradebook item may make students think the item is assigned and an expectation to complete. Hidden items will not count against the final grade in the course. This includes any discussions, extra credit, quizzes, tests, or TGAs (teacher graded assignments) not used. Failure to hide unused items results in confusion on the student end, as it will show up as a graded item.

NOTE: You must hide/delete unused items in the content AND hide in the gradebook as well. Click here for instructions on how to hide items in content.

Hide Grade Items in Student's Gradebook

Go to GRADES on your course menu bar.

Click the Manage Grades tab.

Hit the drop-down arrow next to the title of the grade item you wish to hide.

Select Hide from Users.

Note: this will hide the item in the gradebook only. Make sure to hide the quiz/assignment in Content, if applicable.

Hide Columns in Teacher's Gradebook

Hidden items will still be visible in the teacher's gradebook. Removing these columns is ideal.

Go to GRADES from the course menu bar.

From the Enter Grades tab, click the drop-down arrow next to More Actions then select Hide/Show Columns.

Uncheck any unwanted items and click Save.
