Note: Create a grade item first before creating the assignment for ease. Instructions can be found here.
To begin, go to TOOLS—Assignments. Click New Assignment. Name your assignment and set the point value, due date & time. Click In Grades then Choose from Grades to tie submissions to the grade book.
Note: If you associate the Assignments folder with a grade item, maintain consistency for your learners by matching the point values in each location (Assignments and Grade Item). Further customize the assignment by adding instructions for your learners.
Click Availability Dates & Conditions on the right-hand side to set start and end dates, conditional release and special access. Start and end dates control accessibility to upload submissions to the folder.
Click Submission & Completion on the right-hand side to change submission settings.
Click Evaluation & Feedback on the right-hand side to add a rubric and learning objectives. Checking the annotation Tools box will allow you to annotate the submission document while grading.
Turnitin Functionality
The default Turnitin is OFF. The Turnitin integration for your Assignments folder is to monitor submissions, compare them to an online database of original content, and grade & annotate the submissions. You can configure the Originality Check and GradeMark functionalities within Turnitin. Originality Check provides plagiarism detection. GradeMark is to add comments, insert inline text, and highlight sections in file submissions directly from the grading tool. This is useful if students are submitting essays or research papers.
At the bottom of the Evaluation & Feedback section, click Manage Turnitin.
GradeMark functionality is used to add comments, insert inline text, and highlight sections in file submissions directly from the Turnitin screen.
Originality Check is the plagiarism detection. Check this box if you would like to use this functionality. You can determine whether learners can view Turnitin similarity scores and whether the system checks all submissions or those you identify for originality. Check Allow learners to see Turnitin similarity scores in their submission folder so both you and learners can see the similarity scores for the assignment. Click Save when done.
Note: Click on More Options in Turnitin to explore additional settings.
