Name: Ryuunosuke Matsumaru
Age: 18 (as an Ancient Zoidian, he ages slower than normal humans)
Gender: Male
Appearance: Ryuunosuke is a tall boy for his age, standing at 6’3” and weighing fifty kilograms, making him borderline underweight. However, Ryuunosuke is healthy enough as his skin is just the right colour and glows with vitality. His brown eyes shine with a happiness that doesn’t always reach his mouth and vice versa; in that his smirk doesn’t always meet his eyes.
Ryuunosuke has a large widows-peak-styled mop of long crimson hair, which is usually kept in a high ponytail. His nose is small and pointed and he has a thin jaw. Even though he does not look strong, his muscles are taking shape and he can still create a lot of pain for an opponent. He is broad-shouldered, meaning his clothes often make him look baggier than they would on someone else and his long arms and legs allow him to be a fast and agile individual. Ryuunosuke wears different types of clothing depending on the weather.
Personality: If one were to assume that Ryuunosuke is indifferent towards other people upon their first glance, even while he is actually deeply conflicted, they would be right and wrong. It is merely an act for strangers to see; he is actually quite full of life and adaptable, the scope of his personality ranging from arrogant and super confident to uneasy and dejected after a major defeat, but shows himself to be an incredibly serious and determined fighter when confronted with an actual threat. Willing to fight, kill, die and protect whatever and whoever he believes in, Ryuunosuke is a dangerous person to those who stand in his way.
There are times where his arrogance causes him to speak condescendingly to his comrades, but all it takes is a good verbal reprimand from a team-mate and he comes back to his senses, apologizing straight away but feels guilty for hours afterwards. His confidence enables him to talk the talk and back up his words, leaving his comrades in no doubt that his plans are fool-proof and that if his plans ever do fail, he has the knowledge they’ll beat him up quickly and leave him to ponder their loss. The uneasiness can strike at any time, but particularly more so after they’ve just been curb-stomped by an enemy who is more powerful than them; during these times, Ryuunosuke unintentionally fidgets and twitches, which pleases his partner to no end — but won’t reveal his delight — since the Zoid is constantly out for blood, finding his pilot’s less honourable traits to be trash emotions. The dejected state happens rarely, usually only when one of their lives was close to being lost forever. Ryuunosuke just sits and mopes in this mood, not taking the world on his shoulders or deciding what to do next or anything.
What he’s really like... He does not fight unnecessary battles unless it is to help a stricken individual who can’t defend their honour anymore against the roughest of the opposition and he leads by example with the least amount of words, his friends instinctively knowing what he wants from them. However, his aura also strikes frightening fear into those such as bullies; they may refuse to accept his power, but they know to keep their distance after his aura has beaten them into an admission of defeat.
He is very much at one with nature and can often sense if a Zoid is in pain; this also extends to the more animalistic Organoids on Zi. Because he likes to help Zoids, they shower him with affection in return. Complete strangers find this as odd behaviour from the Zoids, but Ryuunosuke shrugs them off, explaining they have nothing to fear as he would never hurt them. This bond of trust comes from Ryuunosuke having grown up with an Organoid from when he was a young boy and them responding likewise, realizing that he would never hurt Zi’s children or he would have done it already if he had a cruel bone in his body.
Greatly setting him at odds with his Zoid, Ryuunosuke is a reliable and considerate person who puts other people’s safety before his own; even those who have done him wrong. He sees it that if someone has wronged you, it is not right to commit a wrong to exact revenge, although he has slipped up here and there. He is an honourable individual, but people are often left confused by his conflicting personality traits. The conflicts in his personality interfere with how he decides which strategy to use in the best manner and can leave the team theoretically leaderless, but most of all without a plan when the clashing traits cause him to be unable to reason properly, even though he encourages confidence in others.
History: He was born on Zi as the descendant of an Ancient Zoidian and is Fiona’s cousin. Ryuunosuke believes he is older than Fiona, but is not 100% sure. When he was six-years-old, a Murasame Liger sealed his power inside him, the Zoid sacrificing himself in the process. Ryuunosuke took up meditation to learn to control his power.
As he grew older, before he was sealed, Ryuunosuke eventually started feeling ignored because of his adoptive parents’ concern for how he was going to be treated later on. They noticed this and tried to be nicer to him; while he appreciated it, he didn’t want to be pitied and learned to deal with it over the years. He developed an almost obsessive protectiveness regarding his future team-mates and struck fear into the hearts of foes without even really trying.
He went walking when he was ten, pulled by a strange feeling into a nearby ruins, where he met Shade for the first time. Their meeting was not an impressionable one, according to the Shadow Fox, as the stealth-based Zoid identified the Murasame Liger’s power flowing through the human, immediately calling him a moron, pointing at him and growling that the likes of him shouldn’t be allowed to wander Zi.
Three years later, Ryuunosuke was sealed alongside Pulse, the feline-like Organoid he’d grown up with. The Shadow Fox, Shade, decided to wait for the “human” he would undoubtedly call his pilot. Until then, he would resist any attempts to be bonded to another.
Two and a half years later, Ryuunosuke and Pulse were freed from their pods by Van. However, Pulse had since stored his partner’s memories inside him, resulting in Ryuunosuke being just as unaware as Fiona was when she was freed. Shade had been waiting the whole time and was relieved to see his pilot again.
