Improvements are being made for easier fabrication with more standard components. The hand itself is readily manufacturable on most consumer FDM printers.
The OPH is built using the open-source, script-based https://openscad.org/ and allows for customisation of a large number of hand design parameters.
Project code can be reused under the General Public License v3.0 (GPLv3).
Project 3D assets can be reused under the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 4.0)
There are countless research and application opportunies, by keeping the project open source and accessible we hope to be able to explore many more of these, including: design space mapping, actuation synergy design, tactile sensing, autonomous control of compliant hands, prosthetic hands, robotic havesting, and food/logistic warehouse sorting.
Contributors can be fully independent so long as the source is cited, but we also welcome more direct collaboration and in any case we would love to hear back from you any issues/progress/or interesting results you may find.
