Bruno Mars surprised us all when he emerged from the pandemic with a hit new music duo, Silk Sonic. Silk Sonic features Mars and Anderson Paak. The duo announced the creation of their band on February 26th, 2021. But the two hit singers have quite the musical history before Silk Sonic. During the European leg of Mars’s 2017 24K Magic Tour, Paak was the opening act. During this period, the two worked on multiple projects together which resulted in the formation of this duo.
On March 5th, 2021, Silk Sonic released the hit single off the album “Leave the Door Open.” The song instantly became popular, debuting at #4 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Fans eagerly awaited more from the duo, and the pair had their debut performance during the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards. This performance shocked viewers as the two exceeded all expectations.
After eight long months of performances and single releases, Silk Sonic blessed the population with the debut album “An Evening with Silk Sonic.” The album is a fusion of funk, rap, and R&B and creates a 70’s nostalgia with a modern-day twist. Every song on the album is unique and creates an individual experience. The style of music is quite different from Mars’ and Paak’s solo music. Both singers have incredible voices and when this is mixed with catchy beats and rhythms, it becomes a truly immersive experience. The album features a wide variety of sounds, which is nicely demonstrated by the following three singles on the album:
“Leave the Door Open”
“Skate”
“Smokin out the Window”
Silk Sonic has swept numerous award nominations and awards for "An Evening...." After their performance at the 63rd Grammy Awards, the two became nominated for four categories in the 64th Grammy Awards for their hit single “Leave the Door Open.” They include:
Record of the year
Song of the year
Best R&B performance
Best R&B song
Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak have created an album full of the best vibes that everyone can enjoy. This is only the beginning and I'm sure everyone (myself included) is looking forward to the music they'll create in the future.
Have a nice January everyone, and don't forget to have a dance party to your favorite tunes.
